ABOUT THE AREA

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Tredethy, the Camel Valley and Bodmin Moor, together comprise a nature-lover’s and walker’s paradise. Footpaths wend their way across the fields, through the forest, down to the river and up onto the moors – and that’s from the doorstep. The Camel Trail continues to the market town of Wadebridge before following the river down to the estuary and beautiful fishing harbour at Padstow with its narrow winding streets, fascinating shops and top-range restaurants. Vehicles are banned from the eleven miles of the Camel Trail but thousands of visitors use it throughout the year for jogging, walking, bird watching, cycling or just enjoying the countryside in safety. Its smooth surface is also ideal for wheelchair users and buggy pushers.

Just a few miles from Tredethy is Pencarrow House, a beautiful Georgian stately home open to the public between April and October. Its 50 acres of enchanting garden contain a huge collection of specimen conifers and Rhododendrons. Two miles further on is the Camel Valley vineyard. Producing award-winning, world-class wines the vineyard nestles on sun-drenched slopes above the River Camel. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the rows of vines after a relaxed and friendly ‘wine tour’ is a treat not to be missed.

And then there’s the coast. Mile upon mile of spectacular scenery, quaint fishing villages and outstanding beaches - all within a 20 minutes drive from Tredethy. Ride the surf off Polzeath or Constantine Bay, explore the cliff tops and rocky coves along the South West Coast path, pick up some fresh crab at Port Isaac or take a stroll around Padstow’s quayside. There’s no need to rush.

FURTHER AFIELD

Just five minutes from the A30 and with easy access to the entire South West, Tredethy is perfectly placed for exploring all that Cornwall has to offer. The world-renowned Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Lanhydrock House and Gardens, the Shipwreck Centre and tall ships harbour at Charlestown, the winding streets of the working fishing harbours at Polperro and Mevagissey are all easily reached. The ‘mini’ city of Truro, with its cathedral and museum, cobbled streets, quality restaurants and superb shopping centre is under 40 minutes away and the historic port of Falmouth with its harbour and National Maritime Museum is just a little further. Even Penzance and that fabled land of Celtic myth and legend in Cornwall’s far west is just over an hour’s drive away. Is this Tintagel? If so it’s less than an hour, more like 20 minutes
