The nearby Camel Estuary, stunning beaches, outstanding golf courses and some of the West Country’s best coastal-path walking and countryside, all come together at Roserrow to produce a golfer’s, nature lover’s and beach fanatic’s paradise. The surrounding area is crisscrossed with a network of footpaths, wildlife is everywhere and the astonishing range of birdlife is impossible to ignore. You can even walk from Roserrow to Polzeath Beach where the surf-board is king and where the miles of sand (when the tide’s out) provide the perfect playground. Even the more sheltered beach at Daymer Bay is just five minutes by car.
From nearby Rock with its sailing and water sport’s club, the ferry crosses the river to the beautiful fishing harbour of Padstow with its winding streets, fascinating shops and top-range restaurants. The town also marks the end (or beginning) of the eleven-mile Camel Trail that follows the route of the long defunct rail line that ran from Padstow to Bodmin. Vehicles are banned from the trail but thousands of visitors use it throughout the year for jogging, walking, bird watching, cycling or just enjoying the countryside in safety. It’s also ideal for wheelchair and buggy users.
The immediate area is also blessed with several visitor attractions including the stately homes at Pencarrow House and Prideaux Place in Padstow, the rugged slopes of Bodmin Moor and the award winning Camel Valley vineyard. Producing world-class wine from its grapes growing on the sun-drenched slopes above the river, the vineyard is perfect for relaxing on the terrace overlooking the vines after a relaxing and informative ‘wine tour’.
And then there’s the coast. Just a short stroll from Roserrow the panorama unfolds. Mile upon mile of spectacular scenery, quaint fishing villages, outstanding beaches, rocky coves and soaring headlands just waiting to be explored. Ride the surf off one of several nearby beaches, check out the grey seals from high on the coastal path, treat yourself to a lobster straight off the boat at Port Isaac or tuck in to a traditional cream tea while overlooking Padstow’s harbour. It’s what you do in Cornwall.
